SATURN VUE HYBRID

The 2010 VUE Hybrid is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, available in one trim only, the FWD 4-Cylinder.

Upon introduction, the VUE Hybrid is equipped with a standard 2.4-liter, I4, 172-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 25-mpg in the city and 32-mpg on the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The 2010 VUE Hybrid is a carryover from 2009.

Saturn will unveil the new Saturn Astra, which is rebadged from the Opel line-up in Europe, to replace the current ION sedan. The Saturn Astra will be available as a 3-door model or a 5-door model. The Astra will have 140-horsepowers under the hood, which is powered by a 1.8-Liter Ecotec 4-cylinder engine available in either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The Astra looks the same as the Opel counterpart inside and out, which is not so bad since the Astra has not been subject to criticism in terms of appearance. Available options include a two-panel sunroof available on the 5-door model, heated cloth or leather seats, and six airbags are standard. When attending a major event such as a car show, especially when you are the guest at as I was one of General Motors, you can be certain that you'll see more new model releases and concepts than you can shake a stick at. But that is a good thing - having access to some of the cutting edge industry information is an invaluable experience.

One concept that was featured at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) was a Saturn concept, the Flextreme, a vehicle which defies easy categorization. It was one of several GM vehicles management ROLLED out, a car that received plenty of reactions from the audience.

I only wish that my response was half as vocal as some of the other media folks present; I sat there in stunned silence when it was unveiled!

The Flextreme is a concept plug-in hybrid, representing a possible new styling direction for Saturn. I'm not sure if GM will pull it off, but having a dedicated plug-in hybrid is the direction GM is heading. They're hoping to have a plug-in VUE (also ROLLED out at the NAIAS) and the company is working fast on bringing the Chevrolet Volt to market.

The Flextreme's proposed 34 mile all-electric, Emissions-free range does not sound like much, but for the person commuting to work, it should cover the vast majority of commutes. I can imagine that when someone pulls up at their place of business, electrical outlets will be available to recharge the Flextreme during the 9-10 hours the person is at work. Once home, they can recharge their car again.

GM is also looking at placing a 1.3L diesel engine in the vehicle which would help extend the driving range of the Flextreme and recharge the battery. The automaker says it would only take about three hours to fully recharge a battery tapped out Flextreme.

You can buy the Saturn Amp for a price to $ 25,000.

introduced a high-performance version of its Sky roadster for the 2007 model year called Red Line. The Sky gets a respectable boost in performance from an Ecotec turbocharged 2.0-liter engine - GM's first direct injection offering in North America.

It produces 260 horsepower at 5300 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. of torque at 2500 rpm, giving it the best horsepower-to-displacement ratio of any GM engine (130 hp per liter). The powerplant is also the most powerful motor in the Ecotec family.

In addition to more power, the car's chassis has been tuned for better handling and its Braking system has been upgraded for quicker stopping. Other technical highlights include a torque-sensing limited-slip differential and StabiliTrak electronic stability control.

Like all Saturn Skys, the Red Line model boasts a near 50:50 weight distribution, front and rear independent suspension, an extremely stiff body, and coil-over Bilstein monotube shocks.

The Red Line also features several unique interior and exterior differences compared to the Sky roadster, including dual exhaust with chrome polished outlets, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, and a redesigned front apron with large vents and black headlamp bezels.

The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, unique seatback and floormat embroidery, metallic Sill plates, stainless steel pedal covers, Red Line-specific gauges and a digital boost gauge included in the Driver Information Center.

The Sky Red Line has a handful safety features, including dual-stage front air bags, four-wheel disc brakes with standard ABS, side-impact door beams, GM's Passenger Sensing System, and three-point safety belts with pretentioners and load-limiting retractors.
